With my birthday quickly approaching I have found myself doing a bit of self-reflection. Although it is not one of those monumental birthdays, it's close enough.
If you had asked me when I was in high school where I would be now, I would have said NewYork City, without missing a beat. It was my dream. To be in a tiny, over priced apartment living out my own scaled-down version of "Sex in the City". Now I see that, although I do enjoy visiting New York City, I am not sure if being a resident there would have suited me as well as I liked to think it would have. Now my younger sister, she's made to live in a city.
Along with living happily in New York, I would have told you that I was a college graduate. I did go to school, and have my Associates Degree, but I never made it to finishing my Bachelors. I had every intention to, but life got in the way. I keep telling myself I will finish one day and hopefully I will.
I am proud of where I am at in my life. I am happily married to a wonderful man and have a beautiful, healthy and happy daughter. I have been blessed with awsome friends, who I consider the family I have chosen. We are homeowners and I have a good job that I enjoy, despite not having that degree. It is just interesting for me to look back at the dreams and expectations I had for myself and compare them to reality. To dissect the choices that I made along the way and see where those decisions brought me.
"Our lives are defined by moments, especially the ones we never see coming"
Although I am not where I thought I would be, not living out those dreams of a 16 year old, I am living out a different set of dreams. Instead of thinking about the "What If's", I am thinking about the "What Nows" and instead of dreading my birthday I am thankful to be here to have one.

Good points! We need to look forward and know that we did the best we could with what we had and knew at the time. Love your blog design by the way! :) Very cute!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have dreams but it's even better when you appreciate what you have and can count the blessings. It sounds like you have a lot of blessings :) Being happy in life is more important than our young dreams :)
