As all of you fellow moms know, with pregnancy and child birth come huge changes to a woman's body. Along with post-baby weight, a lot of moms, including myself, have the luxury of sporting the dreaded stretch marks.
Now I have heard all the comments, which usually come from the mother's who were lucky enough to NOT have the lasting effect of stretch marks left on their body. Comments such as, "But look at what you got in return", "Wasn't it worth it?", and "What a small price to pay for something so wonderful" are the staples. Yes, it was worth it and yes it is a small price to pay, that goes without saying. However, they are there and I do not like them.
In her most recent post Gina, over at Handprints on the Wall, wrote the following quote:
"A mark for every breath you took, every blink, every sleepy yawn. One for every time you sucked your thumb, waved hello, closed your eyes and slept in the most perfect darkness. One for every time you had the hiccups. One for every dream you dreamed within me.
It isn't very pretty anymore, some may even think ugly. That's OK, it was your home. It's where I first grew to love you, where I laid my hand as I dreamed of who you were and who you would be. It held you until my arms could, and for that, I will always find something beautiful in it." ~ Birthmarks by Cassie Fox
Reading this today has completely changed my perspective, hopefully it has for you too.

ReplyDeleteI don't mind my stretch marks as all and almost love them. They're like battle scars; something to be proud of.
