While pregnant I came across tons of adorable DIY projects that I was ambitious enough to think I could replicate for Nate! I am proud to say that in the middle of the chaos that is currently my home, I have managed to finish two of these projects!
The first was inspired by this pin on Pinterest. I bought a large wooden "N", smaller wooden letters to spell out "Nate" and a fire truck decal from Hobby Lobby. I spray painted the large "N" a light blue to match Nate's nursery and painted the smaller letters red. Once everything was dry, I glued the smaller letters to the side of the large "N" and the fire truck to the bottom. Then I added red ribbon to the back so the name plate can be displayed, hanging on Nate's nursery door!
The second Nate inspired project is my favorite. I found this pin and knew I had to at least attempt this! Although, I did make a few changes to the original post. I went to my favorite, Hobby Lobby, and bought a small shadow box, a couple sheets of white scrap book paper and black acrylic paint. By the time I arrived home from Hobby Lobby, Nate was sound asleep in his car seat, so I decided to take advantage of the moment and got out the paint and scrap book paper. I painted the bottom of Nate's little feet with the black paint and gently placed them onto the scrapbook paper, making sure to overlap the prints of his heels, to make the heart shape. To my amazement, I had the prints done and Nate's feet cleaned before he woke up!
Once the foot prints were dry, I took the glass from the shadow box and placed it over the prints, then I made an outline of the glass. I cut around the outline, so that the image of Nate's footprints would fit inside the shadow box. Instead of stitching around the footprints, as the original post shows, I used a sharpie marker to draw a heart around the footprints and added Nate's name to the top! Then into the shadow box it went. I am so pleased with how this turned out and only wish I had made one of these with Autumn when she was that little!

These are awesome, Kim!! I love the letter...you did a fabulous job! And the feet photo is so adorable!! I hope you're all doing well and ready to enjoy a relaxing weekend! Xoxox

OMG, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the heart footprints. Ohhhh, I want to do this now!!! Thank you so much for sharing. We will deliver our baby boy via c section (high blood pressure issues) on Monday. I'm terrified, truth be told.
ReplyDeleteHow do you manage crafts while having a baby?
Aleta, congrats on your baby boy! How exciting! I had blood pressure issues with my first, so I know what that's like.
DeleteAs far as doing crafts with a newborn (and a 3 year old!), I'm lucky and have children who like to sleep! I usually work on craft projects during my daughter's nap time or at night after they have both gone to bed. I will just do a bit here and there. It takes longer to finish a project, but they do get done eventually!
I hope everything goes smoothly with your C-Section and congrats again!
