DIY: "Love Blocks"

 14 January 2014

I am always depressed when I have to take down all of our Christmas decorations until I realize that there is another holiday right around the corner.

Valentine's Day.

Now, obviously Valentine's Day is not as big in the decorating department as Christmas is but any excuse that I have to hang cute garland from the fireplace mantle, I'll take.

So, a few days ago when I got my Valentine's Day decor out I immediately noticed that I am lacking in decorations, especially when you compare it to everything I just took down. I remembered an adorable set of  "Love Blocks" that I saw at Target and figured that I could probably duplicate them for less than the price tag that Target had on them. So I got to work.

I already had red, pink, light blue, silver and white paint on hand from previous DIY projects so the only thing that I needed was the wooden blocks.

I headed over to Home Depot and had 4 blocks cut out of a piece of 2x6 wood. The blocks are 4 1/2 inches in length.

I painted each block a different color, one red, one blue, one pink and one silver. After the blocks were dry I painted a letter on each block spelling out "LOVE" with the white paint. I used a heart for the "O" on the silver block just to be fancy.

Since I already had the paint on hand the total cost of this project was $6.50 for the piece of wood. That's half the price of the "Love Blocks" at Target.

Mission Accomplished.
