A Pumpkin Patching We Will Go!

 23 October 2012

Two weeks ago, on Saturday morning, Autumn and I were driving down the road on our way to pick up her Dad. He had dropped his truck off for some minor repairs and needed a lift home. On our way there, we passed a church that always sells pumpkins in the Fall. Every year they have tons of pumpkins in the massive yard in front of the church and it is always a hot spot for photographers and momtographers to try to get that perfect Fall picture of the little ones.

There are several places like this where we live, and because this particular church's pumpkin patch stays fairly crowded, we have never been.

As we drove by the church that Saturday morning Autumn noticed all the pumpkins and began asking about going to see them. Then I noticed that the church had added a small area for pony rides and a bounce house. That was all it took. Autumn has yet to experience a pony ride!

As we pulled into the parking lot where Steve was waiting, I rolled down the car window and began explaining that all of the household projects we had planned for that day were going to have to wait because there were pumpkins and ponies waiting for us. Steve's reply? "As soon as I drove by there this morning, I knew you were going to say that."

So after a short drive home and a quick outfit change (Autumn needed to be in a cute Fall outfit if she was going to have her picture taken in the pumpkin patch!) we headed back to the church.

We roamed through the pumpkins until Autumn decided which one would be coming home with us, took pictures and Autumn got her pony ride!

As I watched Autumn walking through the parking lot, headed back to the car, with a red balloon tied around her wrist, a little pumpkin in her hand, and reciting the name of the pony she got to ride, I was thankful for this spontaneous trip to the pumpkin patch. Saturday chores will always be there but we only have so many opportunities to make these memories.
