Like most two year olds, Autumn has been exercising her independence lately. She wants to do EVERYTHING herself. From getting dressed to opening the car door. If I do something for her, that she intended to do herself, I have to undo it and let her do it.
"I want to do it" is currently her favorite phrase.
This surge of independence is apparent in everything that Autumn does with the exception of eating. If I give Autumn something to eat that requires the use of utensils, she will eat half of it and then call out for me to feed the rest of it to her.
I remind her of what a big girl she is and that she can feed herself, to which she usually replies, "I want you to do it." Now, I have previously mentioned what a picky eater Autumn is, and thankfully she seems to have grown out of most of that, but for the sake of making sure she eats, I feed the rest of her meal to her.
I assumed as I saw Autumn wanting to do more things for herself, craving that control, that feeding herself would be one of those things she would want to do. Apparently, I assumed half way wrong!
I suppose I should be thankful that there is still something my "Too grown up for her own good" two and a half year old will still let me do for her. I have a feeling that the days on this are numbered as well.

Hey Kim!
ReplyDeleteI am sure there will come a day real soon where Autumn will want to feed herself, maybe once the new baby arrives...
She is at that age now of independence lol, ahh so much fun ;)
I am hoping that she will want more independence once the baby arrives and not revert back! I am already trying to get her to walk whenever possible instead of being carried...gonna need to free up those arms!
DeleteReminds me of those days my nieces were in that stage. They could do it all. And allll by alone.
ReplyDeleteUntil it came time to clean up that mess they made while doing it alone.
But man, I miss those days. What I'd give to hear "I can do it myself" rather than, "Here Aunt Carrie...you do it. I'm busy."
Oh, I am sure that I am going to be wishing for these days not too long from now!
DeleteIt's so neat to watch children develop over the years and see how much they change. Autumn sounds like one smart and strong little girl! I bet she will be an amazing help when her brother or sister comes along! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a wonderful day!

Thank you Maria! Sometimes she is too smart for her own good! I think she is going to love being a big sister!
