A Day at the Beach

 23 April 2012

Recently, we took a trip down south to visit my family for a long weekend. During this mini-vacation we decided to take the kids somewhere fun, relaxing and free.

That's right, we went to the beach.

Autumn has been to the beach one other time, and that really did not even constitute as a beach. It was a rock ledge surrounded by salt water. She did get to dip her toes in the water, but there was no sand between her toes.

This was a whole different experience. Autumn ran in the water, at one point slipping and taking a nose dive. She played in the sand with her cousin and had a fishing lesson with her Dada.

She loved everything about it, except the one thing I wanted her to feel, the sand between her toes. As I have previously mentioned, my daughter does not like to be dirty, and this includes sand. After spending sometime splashing in the ocean, Autumn ran up the beach to where I was sitting. By the time she got there she realized her feet and ankles were covered in sand. "Wipe it off Mama", she said. I told her to run back down to the water and let it splash over her feet, that would wash the sand off. So she did.

Then she turned around and ran back up the beach.

You can see where this is headed. Autumn immediately looked down at her feet and confused, looked back up at me. Without saying a word, she headed back down to the water.

Autumn made a few more laps back and fourth before deciding that the sand didn't matter that much anymore.
