The Purrfect Match

 23 September 2015

I am pretty sure Autumn came out of the womb loving cats - cats and the color pink. We have two dogs in our household, so Autumn's almost daily request for a kitten was always met with a quick "not right now" or "maybe one day" - until two weeks ago.

Two weeks ago we took Autumn to our local animal shelter and let her pick out a kitten.

After some discussion, Steve and I decided that this was a good time to let Autumn become the crazy cat lady she has always wanted to be. I was still home from work with Autumn which meant that the kitten would have plenty of time to get adjusted to her new surroundings and house mates before I had to return to work and Autumn to school. It also gave Autumn a good amount of time to bond with the kitten, while she was home recovering. It also didn't hurt that Autumn was fresh out of surgery and Steve and I were vulnerable sapps.

We looked at several different kittens while at the shelter. Autumn had always said she wanted a black and white cat like Minnie Mouse has (think Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Moms) and she wanted to name her kitten Figaro, like Minnie Mouse did. The shelter had a beautiful black and white kitten, but she wasn't feeling Autumn and Autumn wasn't too sure about her. As we moved from cage to cage looking at their tiny faces Autumn found one that she liked. A tiny grey and white kitten that had black spots. She was eager to get out and be held and immediately began purring as soon as she was. It was love at first sight.

World, meet Figaro {Fig for short}

The same day that we adopted Fig she was fresh out of surgery where she had been spayed. She had tiny little stitch marks running down her lower belly that Autumn noticed immediately. When Autumn asked me what they were, and I explained it to her, she beamed.

Fig had stitches just like she did. Fig was recovering from a surgery just like she was - it was an immediate bond.

Figaro has transitioned easily into our household and is already running the show. The kids adore her and the dogs put up with her. She loves to snuggle and her favorite place to be is on a blanket next to Autumn on the couch.

They are the purrfect match.
