Forever Four

 28 April 2014

A good chunk of time has passed since my last update on the littles. Since they so often get lumped together, as most siblings do, I am going to dedicate a separate post to each one.

This post is for my Autumn.

As of today Autumn is 4 years, 2 months and 18 days old. If you ask her she will tell you she is "FOUR!" while counting out four on her fingers. I am not sure of her exact weight and height but I do know that she is getting much taller. She lays down in the bath tub to get her hair rinsed (she has a fear of the faucet getting water in her eyes) and I used to be able to slide her back and forth on the bottom of the tub. The other night when she layed down I noticed that she almost reaches from one end of the tub to the other. We are running out of room for sliding.

Autumn's teacher tells us that she is a bit of a social butterfly. She does not have a specific group of friends that she gravitates towards but instead spends time playing with almost everyone. She does have a few girls in class that she has started calling her "best friends". Along those same lines Autumn told me that she has four boyfriends at school. When I asked her what her boyfriend's names were she proceeded to list off all of the boys in her class. Oy Vey.

We are currently working with Autumn on recognizing all of the letters of the alphabet, both capitalized and lower case. She is catching on quickly with the help of flashcards. She has also started pointing out to me when she sees a letter that she recognizes on a sign, or a shirt, or the television.

Autumn loves to be the center of attention. She will put on performances for her Dad and I, where she sings and dances. Sometimes she incorporates her brother but usually he is in the audience with us. She is currently taking gymnastics classes but has asked if she can switch to dance next.

She is the epitome of a girly girl. She loves dresses, nail polish, and has gotten into my makeup on more than one occasion. She loves the sound that high heels make on our wood and tile floors. She still loves to "twirl" and likes to "twirl test" a dress before we buy it.

She loves our dogs and her pet fish "Elsa" formerly known as "Ariel" (and the poor fish is actually a boy!) but is dying to get a kitten. She still talks about Lucifer, the little gray kitten that she wanted to bring home last summer.

She loves her brother and fiercely protects him. On the mornings that I drop the kids off at school, Nate always cries as I leave. Walking down the hall I can hear Autumn sweetly talking to him and I know that she is gently rubbing his head to calm him down. Nate's teachers tell me that she and one of her teachers will often make trips to Nate's classroom to "check in on Nate Nate". When we are home Autumn will tell me "you worry about Nate being stinky, I will worry about everything else."

She loves to give hugs and curl up on the couch. The weekends when I get to steal a quiet moment in the morning, before everyone else is awake, those are some of my favorites.

Autumn is sassy and stubborn. She is sweet and smart (sometimes too smart) and funny. She has her moments, as every four year old does, but as quickly as the tantrums start they (usually) stop. She is independent, believing that she can do anything and everything by herself. She wants so desperately to be as big as her cousins.

I, on the other hand, would be happy if she stayed four forever.
